Surgery 2014 Final Report 

The rate of surgical procedures continues to rise each year, as has the number and type of sites performing surgical procedures. In 2010, 51.4 million inpatient surgical procedures were performed in the United States. In addition, an estimated 53.3 million surgical and nonsurgical procedures were performed in U.S. ambulatory surgery centers, hospital-based and freestanding. This report focuses on the evaluation of 24 surgical measures for suitability as voluntary consensus standards for accountability and quality improvement across a range of settings.
