The National Quality Forum's (NQF) Board of Directors provides strategic direction to the organization. Board members represent a range of healthcare leaders from the public and private sectors. They include providers, purchasers, and consumers, as well as representatives from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and the Health Resources and Services Administration.

The NQF Board meets three times a year and meetings are open to the public (with the exception of closed sessions). Meetings are in person and scheduled as follows in 2020:
