Abstract

On March 24, 2006, the National Quality Forum hosted a summit, “Establishing a Patient-Centered National Action Plan for Deep Vein Thrombosis Prevention, Treatment, and Research,” in Washington, DC. The summit was convened to engage in focused discussions of Deep Vein Thrombosis with the goal of developing a national agenda to enhance awareness and address its public health risks. Summit participants, representing the work of the clinicians, researchers, purchasers, and consumers, recommended a set of principles and strategies to raise awareness in clear ways among key stakeholders and developed a set of specific action steps for implementing the recommendations.
