Adoption of Health Information Technology by clinicians has been shown to improve quality by reducing medical errors, reducing failure to follow-up on abnormal results, eliminating repetitive testing, allowing more timely follow-up on results, and providing clinical decision-support tools to facilitate evidence-based care. The purpose of this project is to achieve voluntary consensus on a set of structural measures that can be used to assess the adoption of Health Information Technology (HIT) by clinicians in the United States.  In March 2008, the Steering Committee reviewed the 18 HIT measures of which 9 are recommended for NQF endorsement.

The Steering Committee assisted NQF staff in evaluating the candidate measures against the NQF-endorsedTM measure evaluation criteria of importance, scientific acceptability, usability, and feasibility..  The detailed measure evaluations and meeting summary for the Steering Committees are available for Member review only.
