SAVE THE DATE: The 2009 John M. Eisenberg Award Luncheon will be held during the National Quality Forum’s annual fall membership and policy conference October 14-16, 2009 in Washington, DC.
Overview of Award / Prior Recipients
The John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Awards were established in 2002 by NQF and the Joint Commission in memory of the highly respected national leader in healthcare quality, Dr. John M. Eisenberg, who dedicated his career to ensuring that healthcare is based on a strong foundation of research and that the services provided reflect the needs and perspectives of patients. Dr. Eisenberg, who died in 2002, spearheaded national efforts to reduce medical errors and improve patient safety as director of the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. The awards, given annually, recognize individuals and healthcare organizations that have made significant contributions to improving patient safety.
The accomplishments of the award nominees/applicants should be clearly linked to the principles that Dr. Eisenberg promoted through his career:
There are separate domestic and international award categories. Self nominations are welcome.
Evaluation
An Award Panel comprised of patient safety and healthcare quality experts identified by NQF and the Joint Commission will evaluate all submissions. The decisions of the panel are final. All materials become the property of NQF and the Joint Commission and will not be returned. The Award Panel will not consider incomplete nomination or applications.
