Background

In December 2006, the NQF Board of Directors approved of a strategic repositioning plan which includes a new governance and committee structure. The new structure provides for the establishment of a new standing committee, known as the Consensus Standards Approval Committee (CSAC).

The CSAC will focus exclusively on the approval of proposed consensus standards and the ongoing enhancement of the consensus development process.  Creation of the CSAC is intended to accomplish the following:

  • Enhance Breadth and Depth of Expertise in Decision-making.  The CSAC includes individuals possessing broad breadth and depth of expertise including individuals drawn from a diverse set of stakeholder perspectives, as well as individuals with expertise in measure development, application and reporting.
  • Improve Timeliness of Decisionmaking.  The CSAC will hold 2 in-person meetings per year, and  conduct business by conference call and e-mail, as needed

Charge to the CSAC

The charge to the CSAC is two-fold:

  1. The CSAC is responsible for review and approval of proposed consensus standards (including performance measures and preferred practices) following comment and voting by the NQF membership.  The Board of Directors will continue to have oversight responsibilities and CSAC decisions regarding consensus standards are subject to final ratification by the Board.

  2. The CSAC will serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Directors and NQF management on ongoing enhancements to the consensus development process and emerging issues in performance measurement.
