The National Quality Forum’s (NQF) portfolio of safety measures spans a variety of topic areas. Many measures in the portfolio are used in public accountability and quality improvement programs. However, significant gaps in measurement remain. The Patient Safety Standing Committee oversees the NQF Patient Safety measure portfolio, evaluates newly-submitted and previously-endorsed measures against NQF's measure evaluation criteria, identifies gaps in the portfolio, provides feedback on gaps in measurement, and conducts ad hoc reviews. During the fall cycle of 2017, the Patient Safety Standing Committee evaluated one newly submitted measure. During the Measure Evaluation meeting, the Patient Safety Standing Committee evaluated one measure for endorsement consideration. The Standing Committee did not reach consensus on the reliability, validity, and usability subcriteria and overall recommendation of endorsement. During the April 17, 2018 Post comment Call, the Committee re-voted on measure #3316e. Ultimately, the Standing Committee reached consensus on the reliability, validity, usability subcriteria and overall recommendation of endorsement. Measure 3316e was recommended for endorsement. The Consensus Standards Approval Committee (CSAC) chose to endorse measure 3316e. The endorsed measure did not receive any appeals and was ratified by the NQF Board of Directors Executive Committee.
